What happens when you want to contract a muscle?
The nervous system is a control system of the body and is a bit like a computer. The brain is similar to the software and is responsible for making decisions and the nerves are like the hardware or wiring that communicates those decisions with the rest of the body.
Voluntary skeletal muscles contractions occur as a result of conscious effort originating in the brain.
The brain sends small electrochemical impulses or action potential through the central nervous system (brain & spinal cord) and the peripheral nervous system.
Reaching and activating the motor neuron that innervates several muscle fibers leading to a muscle contraction.
